About The Host
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I value scientific integrity, transparency, and equality. Science is at its best when everyone has the opportunity to understand and participate. Through all of my platforms, I aim to provide engagement and inclusion in science.
WHY DID I START CWS?
Great question! I originally started Conversations with a Wannabe Scientist when I was a first-year grad student with serious imposter syndrome. As a first-generation college attendee (my mom attended a few classes at community college; my dad didn't graduate from HS), I felt even more lost in graduate school... this was totally new territory! I started the podcast to help answer questions I had: how to survive in graduate school? What does work look like for different researchers? How does a stipend work? What are the expectations people have of me?!
Now, as I relaunch the podcast, it has a broader mission - I aim to help all levels of higher education students (community college, undergraduate, graduate) and early-career scientists learn how they can use their prospective STEAM degrees to positively impact sustainability and climate change - the biggest crises our world faces today.
I want all of you to have the resources I wish I had had during my time in school - and resources I still seek, as an early-career scientist myself.
